His Citation Reads:
For heroism in connection with operations against an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Four Massey distinguished himself while serving as an Artillery Surveyor with Headquarters and Service Battery, 6th Battalion, 29th Field Artillery, 4th Infantry Division. On 27 July 1968, Specialist Massey assumed control of the battery command scope on top of the battalion tactical operations center, while the area was being subjected to an intense rocket attack. Specialist Massey assisted the First Sergeant in locating the hostile rocket position. When the rockets began to impact within the perimeter and the immediate area of the tactical operations center, Specialist Massey remained outside in his exposed position to assist in counter-fire measures until ordered to take cover. Specialist Massey's brave actions, determination, and exemplary devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
